Latest Liverpool transfer news: Journalist claims Liverpool are negotiating a move for Nicolas Pepe
RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi (h/t Liverpool Echo) reports that the Reds are in negotiations over signing Nicolas Pepe of Lille.
The Ivorian winger had an excellent season for Lille, racking up 22 goals and 11 assists in the Ligue 1. The 24-year-old helped Lille return to the Champions League as they finished second in the standings behind Paris Saint-Germain.
The journalist broke the news of Fabinho joining Liverpool last season and also reported about our interest in Nabil Fekir (h/t Liverpool Echo).
Mercado Ingles (h/t Liverpool Echo) adds that the Reds are discussing a £59million move for the 24-year-old.
Pepe to bolster our attack?
Pepe was one of the best players in the Ligue 1 last season and will only get better in the years to come.
The Ivorian performed well in two seasons at Lille and could be a quality signing for the Reds given that we don’t have great cover for our wide men.
Pepe plays mostly as a right-winger, the same position as Mohamed Salah, and we could see the Egyptian shifted to the role of a centre-forward like last season.
The Reds have to sign a couple of quality players in order to reach the strength in depth that Manchester City have.
