Speaking to Kicker (h/t Mirror), Rangnick added that Werner does not want to sign a new deal:

“Timo is of the opinion that he does not want to extend the contract. So far, no club has reported their interest or said they would speak with Timo and want to sign him.”

The Leipzig boss also claimed that Werner’s current position could lead to problems with the fans:

“It’s not a good idea for Timo to go into the final year of his contract, which could be difficult for his relationship with the fans depending on how his performance turns out.”

Werner had a difficult World Cup for Germany but found his shooting boots at Leipzig.

The forward scored 16 goals and provided 7 assists in the Bundesliga, helping them finish in the Champions League spots last season.

Rangnick wants Werner to stay

The 23-year-old is one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga, and Rangnick wanted Werner to sign a new deal with the club:

“My opinion is that Timo fits best here, also in terms of style of play. If I were his advisor or father, I would clearly advise him to stay and extend his contract.”

The Leipzig manager claimed that Werner would be allowed to leave when a “really big club” comes calling. Liverpool have a great forward in Roberto Firmino while Divock Origi did a good job in his place last season.
