Latest Liverpool transfer news: Reds bid £40m for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes
Correio de Manha (h/t Daily Star) reports that Liverpool have bid £40m for Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes.
The report claims that Sporting Lisbon are hoping to raise £50m for the midfielder and Liverpool want to snap up the 24-year-old before Manchester United.
Tottenham are also interested in the 24-year-old, and the report adds that Jurgen Klopp wants to strengthen the Reds to challenge Manchester City.
Liverpool missed out on the Premier League title despite amassing 97 points. The Reds did celebrate winning the Champions League a few weeks ago by defeating Tottenham 2-0.
Fernandes open to Premier League move
The Portuguese star has impressed in the last two seasons at Sporting, and was willing to move to the Premier League if the right deal was in place (h/t Daily Star):
“I never said that I wanted to leave, I am happy here. Even so, sometimes you can’t say no to certain offers.
“I would only leave if Sporting also agree to this. I dream of playing in England.”
There isn’t scope for a lot of improvement in the Liverpool team but one thing we missed in the side was goals from the midfield.
Fernandes bagged 20 goals and provided 13 assists in the Portuguese league last season, and was a part of the Portuguese national side that won the Nations League.

The 24-year-old is capable of playing as a winger too and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move from Sporting in the summer.
