Liverpool FC transfer news: Ajax want more than £80m for Brazil international David Neres
David Neres had an excellent season with Ajax last season and is a part of the Brazil national side.
The 22-year-old is away participating in the Copa America and the Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds have been linked with the forward.
The Brazilian scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists for Ajax in the previous campaign, and Dutch expert Marcel van der Kraan claims Neres will not be coming in on the cheap.
The De Telegraaf journalist was speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast and reported that a £50m bid from China was rejected by Ajax (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The expert added that Ajax chief Marc Overmars wants a huge fee for the youngster:
“That bid was immediately swept off the table by Marc Overmars. Neres is still very young and having a good time at Ajax. This summer might not be the right time to sell him.
“Ajax previously rejected a bid of £50m and now hopes for a transfer fee of £80-£90m.
“This is also because Overmars made it clear that it is impossible to perform well in the Champions League again when half the team is sold.”
Ajax have already lost Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona and the other stars from their previous season were Hakim Ziyech and Matthijs de Ligt.
Neres could be too expensive for Liverpool
Although the Reds have made big money signings in recent transfer windows, it would be a major surprise if Liverpool submitted an £80m offer for the 22-year-old.
The Reds could do with another versatile forward, and Neres can play out wide or centrally.

However, our front-line is world-class at the moment, and we need cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane rather than a starter to replace them.
