Liverpool FC transfer news: Divock Origi to be handed 12-month contract extension

The Independent (h/t Mirror) reports that Divock Origi will be handed a 12-month extension on his current deal with Liverpool.

The 24-year-old was one of our heroes in the Champions League as he scored in the semi-final and the final.

Origi replaced Roberto Firmino and bagged a brace in the 4-0 semi-final second leg win over Barcelona.

The Belgian came off the bench in the final against Tottenham and scored late in the game to seal the Champions League.

Origi bagged seven goals in all competitions for the Reds last season and scored crucial winners against Everton and Newcastle.

The report adds that Origi’s current deal was to expire next year, but will now have 12 more months at Liverpool.

Origi has to continue doing the good work

A year-long extension might not be the greatest reward for his heroics last season, but it gives Origi something to work with.

The forward showed glimpses of his class and needs to put in similar performances in the upcoming campaign as well. The 24-year-old was deployed as a winger in several games though he was great as the lead striker.

He could become a world-class forward if his development continues under Jurgen Klopp.

The Belgian should start more games given our packed schedule and hopefully, this season wasn’t a flash in the pan for the former Lille star.
