Liverpool FC transfer news: Raph Honigstein explains what kind of versatile player Liverpool want
German expert Raphael Honigstein has explained about the ideal player Liverpool are looking for in the summer window.
Jurgen Klopp led the Reds to their sixth Champions League success but missed out on the league title by one point.
Liverpool managed 97 points in the Premier League but Manchester City pipped us to the title, and the Express reports that the Reds are not expected to do any major signings in the summer.
The report claims that Klopp is looking to add depth to the side in the summer, and two areas that need strengthening are the left-back and striker positions.
Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge left after their contracts expired at Liverpool, and Honigstein told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast that the Reds are looking for a versatile player (h/t Express):
“But my understanding is that they’re looking to buy a guy who can ideally be a back-up on the left [at left-back] but also play further forward and if it is the real ideal player, if they could construct him on the Playstation, he’d also fill in as a centre-back.”
The German added that Liverpool have a problem finding cover for Robertson and suggesting the new signing to be on the bench too:
“Because, this has been mentioned to me, you cannot buy a player who is going to be good enough for Liverpool and say, ‘You’re going to be the back-up for Andy Robertson.’”
Honigstein added that Liverpool are looking for versatility and quality in their potential signing but someone who won’t make a fuss when not starting regularly.
Liverpool need to sign cover for Robbo
It is difficult to see which player can be replaced in our starting XI, but we do need cover for Robertson in the summer. The Scot was excellent last season and played almost every game, and Milner can do a decent job as the left-back.
