AC Milan are eyeing Stuttgart defender Ozan Kabak as an alternative to Liverpool star Dejan Lovren, according to Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The Croatian defender had been linked with a move to the Italian giants and to Napoli as well (h/t Daily Star).
The 29-year-old fell down the pecking order last season as Joe Gomez and Joel Matip starred alongside Virgil van Dijk. Lovren still made 14 starts in all competitions for the Reds but was hampered by niggling injuries throughout the campaign.
The Daily Star adds that Lovren is worried about what this season holds with regards to first-team starts, and was considering his future at the club.
Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo) reports that the Milan giants are looking at a cheaper option than Lovren and another target, Kostas Manolas.
The report adds that Kabak can be signed for just €15m, who is cheaper than Milan’s other targets.
Kabak did well for Stuttgart last season but the Germans were relegated to the second division. This could see Lovren remain at Anfield. The Croatian will be played in some games as the Reds have the domestic cup competitions to look at too.
The Club World Cup is another competition that Liverpool should target, and the Croatian’s experience will be important as we challenge on several fronts.
