Liverpool FC transfer news: Liverpool target Junior Firpo responds to transfer rumours
The Mirror reports that Real Betis’ Junior Firpo has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
The report adds that the 22-year-old has a £45m release clause in his contract and the Reds could activate it to land the star.
The Reds need to find cover for Andy Robertson with Alberto Moreno leaving the side after his contract ended.
The Spanish left-back is away on U21 duty at the Euros, and the report adds that the 22-year-old has also been linked with Real Madrid.
Firpo spoke about these transfer rumours, and asked about one club in particular before claiming that he wants to concentrate on the Euros.
The Spaniard told El Larguero about La Liga giants Real Madrid (h/t Mirror):
“Did Madrid call me? If you want to know, you can ask them.
“I’m here with the national team and that’s all I want to think about.”
Firpo speaks on La Liga choices
The youngster was also asked last month if he preferred Madrid or their arch-rivals Barcelona, Firpo sided with the side from the Spanish capital.
The left-back spoke to Marca (h/t Mirror) and claimed this was due to his father coming from Madrid:
“I have said that Real Madrid was more attractive to me because my father is from Madrid.
“This has nothing to do with where I would rather play.”
Firpo added that he wants to concentrate with Betis since he has been at the club for a while.
The 22-year-old could be a great signing for us but Firpo would want to start games regularly, however, that is not possible with Robertson in the team.

The Scot has been excellent since his move from Hull and we need to have a decent back-up should he miss a few games next season.
