Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds set to trigger Junior Firpo’s £45m release clause
Sport (h/t ESPN) reports that Real Betis star Junior Firpo could be the first signing for Liverpool in the summer.
The Reds have seen Alberto Moreno leave Anfield on a free transfer and the report claims that Liverpool could be on the lookout for Andy Robertson’s cover.
That is where Firpo comes in, according to the report, as Klopp needs a quality back-up for the Scottish left-back.
Robertson is possibly one of the best left-backs in the world, but he needs competition to keep up his improvement. The report adds that Liverpool are ready to pay Firpo’s £45m release clause.
Firpo impresses at Betis
The 22-year-old Spanish star did a great job at Betis last season as he racked up 29 appearances in all competitions.
The left-back, who can play as a midfielder, also scored three goals and provided five assists for the La Liga side. Firpo is currently with the Spanish U21 team as they participate in the Euros, and played in the 2-1 win over the Belgium U21 side.
The Reds need a versatile player who can do a job in several positions, and Firpo could be the solution.
