The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) features some of Liverpool’s best attackers featuring for their national sides.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are turning up for Senegal and Egypt respectively as they look to win an international trophy.
However, there is one more star who seems set to play in his country’s first game.
Naby Keita missed the final weeks of the season due to an injury, and even though he travelled to the Marbella training camp, he could not feature in the Champions League final.
The 24-year-old was finding his feet at Liverpool when he picked up an injury, and the Liverpool Echo reports that it was unclear if Keita would feature in Guinea’s opener against Madagascar.
However, Reuters (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that Keita participated in training on Friday and will start for Guinea on Saturday.
The 24-year-old took time to adjust to the Premier League but scored crucial goals against Southampton and Porto. The former RB Leipzig man also scored a goal in the 5-0 win over Huddersfield, and it will be interesting to see how he does in the AFCON.
The African contingent would need to rest after the AFCON tournament, and this could eat into our Premier League preparations.
Our first game is against Norwich on 9th August while the AFCON final takes place on 19th July.
