Nabil Fekir of Lyon
Former France and Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has had a go at Lyon’s Nabil Fekir.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the French midfielder was a target for Liverpool last season, but a deal fell through because of an injury.
Sagnol claimed that Fekir isn’t good enough to leave the Ligue 1 side as the midfielder seems set to leave having just one year left on his deal (h/t Liverpool Echo
).The former France star told RMC that Fekir should have seen his captain’s armband taken off and demoted to the bench after his failed move (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“They have to take the armband off him and put him on the bench if he doesn’t want to play.
“They did the same with [Yoann] Gourcuff.”
The multiple Bundesliga winner added that Fekir’s inconsistency would stop him from moving to a bid club too.
“He is too inconsistent with his performances and it has cooled the interest in him from big clubs.
“They want players who are eight out of ten all the time.
“That is not the case with Fekir.”
The French attacker did his bit for Lyon last season and impressed in the Champions League too.
Fekir also won the World Cup with France, however, most of his appearances came as subs.
It will be interesting to see where the 25-year-old heads off to in the summer. The Reds made some big name signings last time around and we have a great team at the moment.
The Reds still need to find a replacement for Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge who left the club after their contracts ended.
