The Liverpool Echo reports that transfer rumours linking Liverpool with Nicolas Pepe are far off the mark and the Reds are not in talks with the Ligue 1 side.
The report adds that sporting director Michael Edwards even spoke with the Lille manager to say that he wasn’t sure from where the reports of Pepe coming to Liverpool were originating, and we have no interest in the Ivorian.
Pepe had an excellent season for Lille, racking up 22 Ligue 1 goals and providing 11 assists as well.
The 24-year-old is one of the brightest players in the French league and is currently on international duty with Ivory Coast.
The report further claims that Liverpool feel like they are being used to drive up the price of the talented Ivorian, and there will be no interest in the 24-year-old too.
The Liverpool Echo adds that several clubs have been linked with a move for Pepe, however, it seems that the Reds won’t be one of them.
This does seem like a strong stance taken by the Reds, but we had a similar position about not signing Alisson from AS Roma last year.
The Liverpool Echo had claimed that the Reds were not interested in moving for Alisson last summer, but the Brazilian ended up at Anfield and helped us lift the Champions League trophy recently.
