Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds turned down the chance to sign Marcos Llorente
Liverpool turned down the opportunity to sign Real Madrid’s Marcos Llorente in the summer.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder will join city rivals Atletico Madrid, however, his agent had reached out to the Reds.
The Spanish star played 12 times for Los Blancos last season and will look to perform better for Atletico.
Julio Llorente was speaking to Cadena SER (h/t Liverpool Echo), and claimed that the Reds were not looking for a defensive midfielder at the moment:
“I contacted several clubs to let them know what had happened, the conversation that Zidane and Marcos had.
“One of them was Liverpool, but Marcos’ position was covered and it wasn’t a priority.
The agent added that Atletico made the right moves to sign the former Real Madrid star.
Liverpool have a well-stocked midfield
The Reds have several options for the midfield, with Fabinho doing an excellent job since moving from Monaco.
The Brazilian provides our midfield with additional steel and is great with the ball at his feet.
Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson can also play the deeper role while we are yet to see the best of Naby Keita.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should play more games for us this season after recovering from an injury.

Adam Lallana could also provide competition for the midfield places after missing most of last season with problems.
