Latest Liverpool news: Naby Keita returns to Liverpool after AFCON injury
Journalist Amadou Makadji (h/t Mirror) claims that Guinea star Naby Keita left his hotel in Egypt and boarded a jet to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old picked up an injury during the Africa Cup of Nations, and the journalist (h/t Mirror) claimed that the decision was made due to continuous pain in Keita’s thigh.
The report adds that Keita is expected to return to Egypt in three days, and will be assessed by the Liverpool doctors regarding his injury.
The 24-year-old did not feature in the 2-0 win over Burundi. The report claims that a Liverpool doctor checked up on Keita prior to the game.
Injuries come at the wrong time for Keita
The Guinea midfielder didn’t have a fantastic first season at Anfield. The RB Leipzig star looked a little out of sorts initially but grew in confidence in the second half of the campaign.
He picked up an injury at a crucial time and was unable to recover for the Champions League final against Tottenham.
The 24-year-old was a doubt for the AFCON, however, his manager was willing to play the star as long as he was 100% fit (h/t Mirror).
Hopefully, the injury is not too serious for Keita, and he becomes fit ahead of the new season.
