Liverpool confirmed that the U23 team will follow the same training programme as the first-team in the pre-season.
The decision has been taken to make the transition from the reserves to the first-team easier, and that the young players can easily play under Jurgen Klopp should they need to make the move up.
The release claims that the youngsters of Neil Critchley’s side will follow the same methods as the first-team, and it will be interesting to see how things progress for them in the 2019-20 season.
Critchley told LiverpoolFC.com that the club was preparing the players for the next step, and claimed some of the youngsters could play in the first-team next season:
“Maybe some of our players will get the opportunity to go to Melwood and train. If we are not working closely to how they work – in terms of the loading and the training – then we’re setting our boys up to fail.”
The Reds were stretched a bit last season, with the likes of Ki-Jana Hoever and Rafa Camacho playing for the first-team.
The Reds also struggled with the right-back position when Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up a knee injury.
Jordan Henderson and James Milner slotted into that role, however, a natural right-back would have been better.
The Reds have several highly-rated youngsters coming through the ranks, and hopefully, we get to see some of them in action next season.
