Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur believes Liverpool have offered Divock Origi a good contract and a better role at the club.
The Liverpool striker scored some crucial goals for us last season as we won the Champions League, and has just 12 months left on his current deal.
The Liverpool Echo (h/t Express) claims that positive discussions have been held between the Reds and Origi over a new deal.
The Belgian has seen a rise in his stock since a return from Wolfsburg. The 24-year-old was behind Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order but he proved his worth by scoring some important goals.
The former Lille star bagged a goal in the Champions League final too, and Terreur spoke on the Transfer Talk podcast about Origi’s situation (h/t Express).
The expert claimed that Origi was offered a new deal before the Champions League final, and there were advanced negotiations. The player is away on holiday, and the Reds have offered him a better position at the club (h/t Express):
“He has been promised a more advanced role now Sturridge has left. He’s basically the back-up for Mane, Salah and Firmino. He’s basically the first back-up for them.
“They’ve offered him good money. I think the moment the cards are on the table right now that he might sign a new deal for four or five years.”
The Belgian was one of the surprise players for Liverpool last season and should stick around for another campaign, at least.
Sturridge has left Anfield, and Origi should get more games next season when compared to last season.
The 24-year-old could even start the season as first-choice since Firmino is away on Copa America duty (h/t Express
