Liverpool FC transfer news: Lille’s president confirms Liverpool interest in Nicolas Pepe

Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed that Liverpool have been in negotiations with Nicolas Pepe ahead of a possible summer move.

The Ivorian was one of the stars in Ligue 1 last season, notching up 22 goals for Les Dogues. Lille finished in the Champions League places and the winger is currently with the national side for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Mirror claims that Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in the winger, who Lille value at £70m.

However, Liverpool seem to be linked with the Ivorian, and Lopez told RMC Sport that the Reds have contacted Pepe (h/t Mirror):

“I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club.

“Liverpool have players in those positions and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.”

The president added that discussions have taken place with agents, and he wasn’t just focusing on Liverpool.

Lopez added that Les Dogues received a couple of bids for the Ivorian:

“We had two offers before the Africa Cup of Nations. We’ll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs.”

Reds have a fantastic attacking trio

The Reds are blessed with three world-class forwards in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

However, we don’t have top-class cover for them, with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri doing a decent job last season.

Pepe would be a brilliant signing for the Reds given his exploits with Lille, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up by the end of the transfer window.
