Liverpool FC transfer news: Liverpool scout Zenit striker Sardar Azmoun

Soviet Sport (h/t Express) claims that members of Liverpool’s scouting department watched Sardar Azmoun in Zenit St. Petersburg’s clash against Lokomotiv Moscow.

The Iranian forward was in great form as he scored two goals in a losing cause, and recently joined the Russian outfit in a deal worth £10.5million (h/t Express).

The report claims that Azmoun was close to joining Wolves, and the striker has been linked with the Reds since 2016. Azmoun has been nicknamed as the ‘Iranian Messi’ and our scouts left with positive reports after watching the 24-year-old in action (h/t Express).

The forward has done pretty well since joining Zenit and has found the back of the net 14 times from 17 games in all competitions.

Azmoun rejected a move to Liverpool

In an interview for the Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the Iranian claimed he snubbed a move to Liverpool (h/t Express):

“There were talks of Liverpool having expressed an interest in me during the past winter transfer window.

“However, I did not feel the time to move was right. I would have ended up playing a few games and then spent a great deal of time on the bench as Liverpool were only looking to fill a void for a particular part of their season.”

The Reds have already signed PEC Zwolle’s Sepp van den Berg and it will be interesting to see if we move for a striker.

Daniel Sturridge left the club at the end of his contract but Rhian Brewster could get more playing time next season.

Divock Origi should also have a greater role for the Reds after his exploits in the previous campaign.

Roberto Firmino was in fantastic form for Brazil as they won the Copa America and should be our first-choice once he returns.
