Liverpool FC transfer news: Tomkins claims Spearing’s presence led to Liverpool not signing Ramsey
Paul Tomkins claims Liverpool didn’t move for Aaron Ramsey more than a decade ago due to the presence of Jay Spearing (h/t Liverpool Echo).
Ramsey made big news by leaving Arsenal at the end of the season and joining Serie A champions Juventus.
The 28-year-old Welshman was also linked with a move to Liverpool before joining the Turin giants, according to Express.
Ramsey would have been a great addition to the current Liverpool team due to his versatility, but he should be a great fit at Juventus too.
Spearing made 55 first-team appearances for us and the diminutive midfielder has always given it his all on the pitch.
The 30-year-old now plays for Blackpool, and even though he wasn’t the most gifted player we had, Spearing tried his best when wearing the Red of Liverpool.
It will be interesting to see how Ramsey does at Juventus given the competition for midfield places at the club.
The Italian giants will also be under new management, with former Chelsea and Napoli man, Maurizio Sarri, taking over.
A couple of midfielders have big seasons ahead
Naby Keita didn’t have a great debut season for Liverpool but needs to be at his best in the upcoming campaign.
The Guinea midfielder should be fit for pre-season and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also needs to have a good season.
