Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp claims Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren could feature against Tranmere
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hinted that Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren could feature in the first pre-season game against Tranmere.
The club confirmed that 16 players had reported for training recently, with Divock Origi and Lovren returning a little later.
Mignolet is expected to return this week, and the manager was asked if Lovren and Mignolet would feature against Tranmere and he said (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):
“Dejan, we will see. Simon, [he’s a] goalkeeper, yeah. We struggle with goalkeepers at the moment, we have a very young group here.”
The manager touched upon our goalkeeping problems, with Alisson winning the Copa America and Caoimhin Kelleher injuring himself recently.
Klopp added that Mignolet would be “fine to play” and Kamil Grabara would also join us late after participating in the U21 Euros.
The German added that pre-season was about problems but he said that he would find a solution:
“Problems in football are only there to find a solution and in pre-season you have a lot of problems and always try to find the solution, so we will do our best.”
Youngsters to be given chances
Klopp also highlighted that since several first-teamers are away, some of our young players will have a chance to play.
The German expects the youngsters to play a part in the US tour too and it will be interesting to see how they do in the coming weeks.

A bunch of quality performances could see them feature once the season starts, and we could unearth the next Joe Gomez or Trent Alexander-Arnold if things go well.
