Liverpool set to welcome four first-team stars back for training on Saturday

Latest Liverpool news: Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk to return on Saturday for pre-season

Liverpool have confirmed that four more senior players will return to Melwood on Saturday to start pre-season training.

Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Trent Alexander-Arnold will report for testing after having an extended summer break.

The quartet were involved in international games after the Champions League final, and will join the likes of Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Dejan Lovren, Simon Mignolet and Naby Keita at Melwood.

The Reds play Bradford City after their clash against Tranmere Rovers on Thursday, and it will be interesting to see if any of these new arrivals play a part in the game on Sunday.

Liverpool are then off to the USA for their next phase of pre-season, and then it is a return to Europe before our Community Shield game against Manchester City.

Our Brazilian pair of Alisson and Roberto Firmino should be back at Anfield by the end of July.

The pair won the Copa America with the national side but it wasn’t a great summer for Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian had to deal with AFCON heartbreak as the Pharaohs were knocked out by South Africa.

Sadio Mane is still in the tournament as Senegal look to win it for the first time, and the former Southampton star is the only senior player who could be in action till mid July.

The AFCON final is scheduled on 19 July, and Mane should be off for a three week break after that.
