Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp shares plans for Rhian Brewster ahead of new season

Jurgen Klopp has backed Rhian Brewster to play a role in Liverpool’s upcoming campaign.

The 19-year-old is highly-rated at Anfield but his career has been affected by several injuries.

Brewster won the U17 World Cup with England a couple of years ago but has spent most of his time after that on the treatment table.

The youngster scored a brace in our first pre-season game in the 6-0 win over Tranmere, and Klopp claimed this was going to be a big season for Brewster (h/t Mirror):

“100 per cent [it is a big season] but it depends on him as well. Divock Origi stays which is good news, Bobby Firmino is still there.”

The German then claimed that he had spoken with Brewster about his role at Liverpool, and the youngster might have to play out wide in certain games:

“Rhian Brewster is a top striker, he is a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year but how important depends on him. We will see.

“He has to play different positions as well – the centre, wing is possible I think, we will see how we line up, but there will be opportunities for him. I am sure.”

Origi played out wide last season and got several chances to impress after Roberto Firmino picked up an injury.

Time for Brewster to shine

Klopp seems to be backing Brewster this season, and the German has been great with most of his calls at Liverpool.

The English youngster could turn out to be the next Joe Gomez or Trent Alexander-Arnold, and cement a place in the starting XI if he continues his growth.

Brewster also has to remain injury free and hopefully, he can bang in a few goals when the season starts.
