Latest Liverpool news: Reds play-out 2-2 draw against Sporting Lisbon in final US tour game

Liverpool’s tour of the US wouldn’t be considered a success if we are to look at the results.

The Reds ended the tour without a win, and drew with Sporting Lisbon 2-2 at the iconic Yankee Stadium.

Liverpool started with a strong side that was still missing the likes of Alisson, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Simon Mignolet had played most of the pre-season minutes but the Belgian messed up a shot from Bruno Fernandes and allowed the ball into the net.

The Portuguese giants were up 1-0 after just four minutes but the Reds scored via Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum.

The two strikes came before the half-time whistle but Sporting hit back after the break.

Wendel scored in the 53rd minute and the match ended 2-2, with neither side able to get the better of the other.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got some important minutes for the Reds while Virgil van Dijk also featured in the game.

Andy Robertson was also seen in action, and it will be interesting to see if the Scot improves further in the upcoming campaign.

Sepp van den Berg also made his debut for the Reds but only got a few minutes on the pitch.

Reds return to Europe

Liverpool set off for the next leg of their pre-season, with games against Napoli and Lyon before the season starts.
