Liverpool FC transfer news: Roma turn attention to Lovren after failing to land Alderweireld
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that AS Roma have turned their attention to Dejan Lovren.
The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp last season and struggled for fitness.
The Croatian played 13 games in the Premier League but Joe Gomez and Joel Matip had a better season than the 30-year-old.
Virgil van Dijk was supreme at the back and the Reds have also signed Sepp van den Berg. The 17-year-old has already featured during the pre-season and big things are expected from the centre-back.
The report claims that Roma are interested in Lovren after failing to land Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian is one of the better defenders in the Premier League but Roma
Lovren is a cheaper option, with the defender being valued at £25m (h/t Liverpool Echo) but selling the Croatian makes no sense for the Reds given their situation.
Liverpool cannot sell first-teamers this close to the season
The Croatian is one of the most experienced defenders in the Premier League and selling him with less than 10 days to the season would be a bad choice.
Liverpool would have to find a quality replacement in the summer, which will not be easy.

Lovren played well alongside Van Dijk last season and keeping him, for now, would be a better move than selling him.
