The release adds that Torus manage 40,000 social homes across the north west and Liverpool identified the company as the “best socially responsible” developer to take over the historic training ground.

Liverpool are in the middle of a redevelopment process with work taking place at Kirkby from 2018. The new training ground is expected to be one of the best in the world and will feature the first-team and academy players.

The release confirms that Liverpool hope to start the 2020-21 season from their new Kirkby home and the training ground should be completed in 2020.

Liverpool to reinvest Melwood sale funds

Liverpool’s executive vice president, Andy Hughes, confirmed the sale and added that the side’s limited space was a factor into taking the tough decision.

Hughes thanked the people of West Derby for their feedback and support regarding the entire process and added that the funds from the sale would be reinvested into the team (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):

“All funds from the sale of the Melwood site will be reinvested back into the first-team squad and the state-of-the-art training centre at the new Kirkby site.”
