“Not losing sleep over this”, “Bring on Friday” – Several Liverpool fans remain upbeat despite Community Shield defeat

Latest Liverpool news: Reds lose Community Shield to Man City on penalties

Liverpool lost the Community Shield to Manchester City despite a great showing in the second half.

Georginio Wijnaldum was the only player to see a penalty saved, though Alisson should have done better with some of his dives.

City were the better side in the first half, with Raheem Sterling finding the net and Alisson being unable to deal with the effort.

Joel Matip scores against Manchester City

The Cityzens were able to cut us open time and again as they targeted Trent Alexander-Arnold, but we held on to keep the scores at 1-0.

Second half domination by the Reds

Liverpool were a different beast in the second half as we pressurised City into making mistakes.

Virgil van Dijk hit the crossbar with a volley which came off the line and Mohamed Salah hit the post. But our equaliser was nodded in by substitute Joel Matip.

Salah had the best of our chances and saw Claudio Bravo make several sales before Naby Keita’s first-time shot was also saved by the keeper.

The Egyptian had the best chance of normal time when he saw his shot come off a City defender and he headed into the empty net, but Kyle Walker charged in like a madman and made an acrobatic goal-line clearance.

The Reds were great and this should give us a lot of confidence going into the Premier League season.

City might have won the Community Shield but many fans were pleased with the performance of the team.
