Liverpool FC transfer news: Lovren’s move to Roma is off
The Daily Mail reports that Dejan Lovren’s move to AS Roma is off after the Italians failed to submit a concrete offer for the defender.
Lovren has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool and did not travel for the UEFA Super Cup final on Wednesday.
Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have done a great job alongside Virgil van Dijk, and the report claims that Lovren saw a move to the Serie A as an ideal opportunity to gain regular starts.
However, Liverpool have been left “frustrated” as Roma failed to make a serious offer for Lovren despite suggesting they could bid £15m (h/t Daily Mail).
Liverpool still interested in selling Lovren
The report adds that the Reds are keen on selling Lovren, with the European transfer window still open.
The Reds signed Sepp van den Berg this summer, while highly-rated youngster Ki-Jana Hoever can also play as a centre-back.
It is a bit of a risk for Jurgen Klopp to sell a player as experienced as Lovren and not be able to sign a replacement. The Croatian still has two years left on his contract, and Liverpool had to deal with several injuries to their senior centre-backs last season.
Keeping Lovren until next summer makes sense as it will be difficult to find an experienced replacement for him.

Klopp has trusted young players in the past, and it will be interesting to see who gets promoted should Lovren leave the club this month.
