Liverpool FC transfer news: Carragher wants Reds to sign Maddison
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wants the Reds to sign James Maddison of Leicester City.
The English midfielder had a fine debut season for the Foxes after joining from Norwich City in the previous campaign.
Maddison was excellent in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend and created several chances for the away side.
Liverpool didn’t sign a senior outfield player in the summer but Carragher believed that the Leicester City man is the one that the Reds should target (h/t Mirror):
“I think he is the one player outside of the top six who Liverpool should be looking at.”
Carragher was speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Mirror) and believed that Maddison is the player who could take us to the next step even though he would cost a lot of money:
“People have been talking about Coutinho coming back, but obviously that hasn’t happened as he has gone to Bayern Munich, but if you are looking in the Premier League, yes he will cost a lot of money, but he should be the one Liverpool are looking at if you are going to that next step up.”
An expensive signing for Klopp’s side?
The Reds have several midfield options in their current team but there isn’t one player who can create chances for the attackers.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are two attack-minded midfielders but they aren’t as creative as Maddison.
The 22-year-old has grown since his move to the King Power Stadium and it will be interesting to see how he performs this season.
Brendan Rodgers has worked well with young talent in the past and our former manager seems to be getting the best out of Maddison.

Leicester sold Harry Maguire for a huge sum this summer, and they won’t let the Englishman leave easily anytime soon.
