Latest Liverpool news: Barnes warns Mane’s form could dip later in the season

Sadio Mane has been a machine for Liverpool over the past two seasons. The Senegal star was involved in the World Cup, played almost every game for us last season and then took the national side to the AFCON final.

Barely three weeks after the final, he was back at Liverpool and came off the bench to face Norwich. Mane has bagged three goals in his last two games and should feature for us against Arsenal at the weekend.

Former Liverpool star John Barnes claims that Mane is in fine form due to a lack of rest for the attacker, and we could pay for that later in the season.

Barnes was speaking to the Sport Review and claimed that Klopp would be able to manage this situation (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Maybe one of the reasons Sadio Mane in fine form is because he’s fitter than everybody else because he hasn’t had the time off, which he could pay for later on in the season, come Christmas time.

“But I’m sure that Klopp will be able to manage that situation.”

Liverpool’s over-reliance on their forwards

Klopp has rotated his midfield several times over the past two seasons but isn’t afforded the same luxury when it comes to the forwards.

Roberto Firmino only missed games when he was injured in the previous campaign, while Mohamed Salah also played in most of the games.

Liverpool have Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi as cover for the pair, but they aren’t on the same level as the African stars.

Salah and Mane are extremely durable, given the number of games played over the past two years, and they seem to be performing at a high level and barely look tired.
