Latest Liverpool news: Achterberg provides update on Alisson
Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach John Achterberg provided an update on Alisson’s recovery from an injury he suffered against Norwich.
The Brazilian pulled up in the win over the Canaries on the opening day of the season and injured his calf when taking a goal-kick.
Adrian has deputised for the Brazilian but the former West Ham keeper has looked shaky in his outings. Achterberg was speaking to The Athletic and claimed that Alisson is back in the gym (h/t Mirror):
“Ali is good.
“He’s in every day for treatment and they try to improve things. He’s able to do some fitness work in the gym without using his leg. It’s difficult, but you have to try to look forward and be positive. You have to try to turn a negative into a positive.”
No confirmed date for Alisson’s return
The coach added that he couldn’t confirm a return date for the Brazilian but claimed he would return after the upcoming international break.
“They haven’t given us a specific time he’ll be out as it’s difficult to say how quickly it will heal. That’s all with the medics. There’s an international break coming up and we’ll have to wait and see how long it takes after that.”
Achterberg claimed that nothing much had changed with regards to goalkeeper training at Liverpool, and the Brazilian had returned in better shape in the summer than when we signed him.
Alisson is one of the best keepers to have played for Liverpool and won the Golden Glove in his first season at the club. He provides us with an outlet at the back and his ball control with the feet is better than most keepers in the league.

Adrian is a decent deputy to have but we need the Brazilian to return soon. Hopefully, he comes back stronger than ever and continues his great form from last season.
