Liverpool vs Arsenal ratings: Liverpool player ratings

Liverpool surged two points clear at the top of the table with a 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield. The Reds dominated the first half with loads of possession but Arsenal had two brilliant chances to score.

The Gunners were hitting us on the counter and it took a corner to break the deadlock. Joel Matip rose highest to meet a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross and we went into half-time with a slender lead.

Mohamed Salah scored a pair after the break as we made the points safe, with Lucas Torreira getting a consolation for the Gunners.

Liverpool barely broke a sweat in the game, and we seemed to have a lot left in the tank. The Reds’ next game is against Burnley and we should be favourites to win that game too.

Liverpool player ratings

Adrian – 6.5/10

The usual moment of madness from Adrian came in the first half as his clearance reached Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but the Gabon striker’s chip missed the target. There were fewer passes to Adrian throughout the game, and the Spaniard did make some good saves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10

The right-back had several chances to deliver quality crosses but he barely reached found a Liverpool player. Trent got the assist for Matip’s goal and did well after the break.

Virgil van Dijk – 7.5/10

There was one moment when Nicolas Pepe seemed to get the better of Virgil but the Dutch defender had a decent game otherwise.

Joel Matip – 8.5/10

The Cameroon defender was great at the back, scored a fantastic header and also made some fantastic runs into the opposition half.

Andy Robertson – 7/10

Andy, like Trent, was afforded half of Anfield to pump in the crosses in the first half, and some of them were great. The Scot also linked up well with Sadio Mane as the game wore on.

Fabinho – 7/10

Fabinho’s pass helped Salah score his second goal of the game, the Brazilian also did well after a bit of a rough start where he gave the ball away.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10

Wijnaldum put in a regular display with a lot of running and some quality moments in the attacking third.

Jordan Henderson – 7/10

Hendo made one mistake in the first half as his touch allowed Pepe through on goal. Otherwise, the captain had a decent game.

Sadio Mane – 6.5/10

A relatively quiet game from the Senegal star as he tried his best to get the team going. The former Southampton man should have scored from a header but missed the target.

Mohamed Salah – 8.5/10

Salah’s second goal was a thing of beauty as he turned David Luiz inside-out. The Egyptian also won us a penalty and scored early in the second half. The forward could have scored and created more but was a little unlucky.

Roberto Firmino – 7.5/10

The Brazilian was great and should have gotten a goal for his efforts. There was one moment of brilliance where he flicked the ball and shot at goal, sending Dani Ceballos packing.

Substitutes

James Milner – 6.5/10

The midfielder had some great tackles after coming on in the second half and kept things ticking.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – NA
