Latest Liverpool transfer news: Kelly was a target for Reds in the summer
Liverpool correspondent Paul Gorst took part in a Q+A and claimed that the Reds were interested in another youngster this summer.
The European champions didn’t make any major moves this transfer window and landed Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliot, two upcoming youngsters.
Adrian was only brought in after Simon Mignolet left and the Liverpool Echo reporter claims that we were interested in Lloyd Kelly.
The former Bristol City defender, who can play as a left-back, is one of the brightest English talents in the game, but Bournemouth snapped up the 20-year-old.
Gorst added that the Cherries kept Liverpool away from the negotiations due to their bid and the Reds saw Kelly as cover for Andy Robertson too (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Lloyd Kelly was seriously considered by Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards, but Bournemouth’s £13m deal was enough to keep the Reds away from the negotiating table.
“The idea was that Kelly would have room to improve at a steady rate as second fiddle behind undisputed left-back Andy Robertson.”
Kelly is yet to make an appearance for Bournemouth since his move but should be in good hands under Eddie Howe.
Liverpool could have done with cover for Robbo
The Reds allowed Alberto Moreno to leave for free and did not sign a replacement for the Spaniard.
This leaves us with no recognised cover for Robertson, though James Milner and Joe Gomez have played in that position before.

The Scottish left-back will need some rest during the course of the season when the cup competitions enter the schedule, and it will be interesting to see who Jurgen Klopp replaces him with.
