The Guardian reports that a collection of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham supporter groups have asked UEFA to “improve the experience of fans at European finals and to avoid awarding showpiece occasions to countries with questionable human-rights records.”
The allocation of tickets for the Champions League and Europa League finals left a lot to be desired by the supporters of the four teams.
Liverpool and Tottenham supporters were handed just 33,286 tickets from the 68,000 available for the Champions League final while Arsenal and Chelsea fans had to travel close to 2,500 miles for the Europa League final held in Baku (h/t Guardian
).The Champions League draw takes place on Thursday, with the Europa League draw to be held the day after.
The Spirit of Shankly group have joined some groups from the other Premier League clubs and have provided a six-point plan which includes allocating 80% of final tickets to supporters of the teams (h/t Guardian).
The demands also include that tickets must be sold at affordable prices and finals should be held in cities with good transport systems.
The groups also wanted finals to be held in stadia which are accessible to disabled supporters, with several choosing not to travel to Baku for the Europa League final (h/t Guardian).
UEFA did make a mockery of the ticket allocations and hopefully, that is one issue they address soon.
The Reds have a great following in their away games and the larger the allocation of tickets, the greater the chances are of local fans supporting their team across Europe.
