Latest Liverpool news: Reds to perform U-turn and push for late closure of transfer window
The Times (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that Liverpool will perform a U-turn and push for the late closure of the transfer window.
This summer’s Premier League transfer window ended before the start of the season, however, that put clubs in a spot of bother.
The European transfer window was active and only closed on 2nd September, and that enabled the other clubs to move for Premier League players.
The Premier League clubs were unable to sign replacements and could only target players for the winter window.
The report claims that a majority of Premier League clubs need to vote during the chairman’s meeting on 12th September as the Reds now prefer a late deadline.
Late deadline allowed Reds to complete some moves
Liverpool completed most of their moves early in the window as we didn’t target any major players this time around.
Adrian joined the club as a replacement for Simon Mignolet, however, the late closure of the window allowed us to get rid of Bobby Duncan.
The youngster was sold to Fiorentina after his agent’s outburst but it is the right decision to ensure that all transfer windows close at the same time.

The Reds might not have signed any big players this time, but they would have been at a disadvantage as foreign clubs were able to bid till 2nd September while our window ended almost a month prior to that.
