Wolverhampton Wanderers join the race to sign Joe Gelhardt

Joe Gelhardt is a striker in demand as Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined the race for the 17-year-old, according to the Birmingham Mail (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The Wigan star has played in the Championship this season and is one of the brightest talents coming through the division.

The English youngster can play on either wing but his best position is as a centre-forward. The Reds are also interested in the 17-year-old (h/t Daily Mail

) and the Liverpool Echo adds that Gelhardt has a couple of years left on his contract.

The report claims that Wigan could try to cash in on the talented youngster as the forward made his Championship debut last season.

More young forwards at Liverpool?

The Reds have lost Bobby Duncan in the summer but have several talented attackers in the youth teams. Paul Glatzel has impressed for the U18s last season while Rhian Brewster

is expected to feature in the first-team this season.

Harvey Elliott, a summer signing from Fulham, could also feature for us later in the season, and the youngster was also included in our Champions League group squad.

The Reds didn’t make any big signings in the summer as they targeted a couple of young players for outfield positions, and signing Gelhardt would fit well into the scheme of things.
