Nabil Fekir insists there is nothing wrong with his knee and doesn’t know why Liverpool move failed
Liverpool were unable to complete a move for Nabil Fekir in 2018 as rumours of a failed medical surfaced (h/t Daily Mail).
The Frenchman had even recorded a welcome message for the club and a deal worth £53million had been agreed, according to the Daily Mail.
However, the Reds tried to renegotiate the deal regarding a medical that brought up a knee problem, according to the report, but the deal didn’t work out and Fekir joined Real Betis in the summer.
The Frenchman has now opened up about the failed move to Liverpool and told L’Equipe that there is nothing wrong with his knee (h/t Daily Mail):
“Lots of lies were told and they affected me,’ he said. Especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me. Especially when you know that’s what being told is false.
“What was said is not the truth. My knee is good – I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine (France’s national training base) – my knee wasn’t even mentioned. If my knee had been in such a bad state, would Aulas (Lyon chairman Jean-Michel) have made [a huge offer to keep me]?”
The World Cup winner added that more lies had been spread about his family causing the transfer to collapse, and Fekir himself wasn’t sure why Liverpool backed out of the deal:
“You want the truth? Even I don’t know – I promise you! I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me. At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee – but an excuse needed to be found.
“The medical tests that I did at Clairefontaine were very clear – my knee is perfectly fine and I feel fine. There are no issues at all with my knee”
Liverpool move on from Fekir
The Frenchman was one of the best players for Lyon over the past few years and it wasn’t a surprise he moved to another club in the summer.
However, a move to Betis was one of the major surprises in the transfer window.
Fekir has a chance to prove his doubters wrong but Betis aren’t even playing in the Champions League this season.
The Reds have moved on from the Frenchman and it could be time to forget about this failed deal and do the same.
