Simon Mignolet claims Club Brugge have better training facilities than Liverpool

Simon Mignolet left Liverpool in the hunt for more first-team games in the summer.

The Belgian joined Club Brugge and will be playing in the Champions League this season, but could have been featuring for us after Alisson picked up an injury against Norwich.

The former Sunderland star was speaking about the facilities at his new home as Brugge opened a new training complex on Wednesday.

Simon Mignolet during pre-season

Mignolet claimed that his new club’s complex was better than Melwood’s and even highlighted what the differences are with some other facilities while speaking to HLN (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“This is better than Melwood, the training ground of Liverpool, better than that of Sunderland and the training complex of the Red Devils in Tubize. There is really nothing missing here.

“If you are present somewhere every day as a player, the defects quickly come to light. In Liverpool there was no swimming pool, in Sunderland, for example, no hotel rooms. Everything is there to get better as a player.”

Liverpool planning their own training centre

The Reds are also looking to revamp their training facilities at Kirkby and the new location should have a lot of the facilities that Mignolet spoke about.

The Reds have one of the best teams in the world and having a training facility that matches our aspirations is just as important.

The new training facility will also bring the academy players closer to the first-team while we will say goodbye to the iconic Melwood ground.

The Merseyside giants have taken several forward steps under Jurgen Klopp, and the new training facility is another big one as we go from strength to strength.
