“It’s not cool” – Klopp hopeful that Liverpool attacker isn’t seriously injured after win over Newcastle

Jurgen Klopp hopes Divock Origi’s injury isn’t serious

Liverpool came back from behind to defeat Newcastle United and kept up their 100% win record in the Premier League this season.

Jetro Willems scored the opener for the Magpies before Sadio Mane bagged a brace before the break.

Mohamed Salah got the third goal to wrap things up, but we could have scored a few more times against the away side.

Divock Origi

There were some changes in the starting XI with Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in from the first whistle.

However, Origi’s afternoon came to an early end after the Belgian injured his ankle.

The striker was replaced by Roberto Firmino, who was the star of the show against the Magpies, and Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the 24-year-old’s problem (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Unfortunately Div twisted his ankle early in the game.

“He had to come off and we all hope it is not serious. That he could play on is hopefully a sign it is not that serious, and hopefully it’s like this.”

Klopp added that Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane also had minor knocks, but the Reds needed to have Origi’s ankle scanned to learn more:

“Robbo (Andy Robertson) and Sadio (Mane) got knocks but all fine. Divock will have a scan and then we know more.

“It’s not cool. He is in really good shape and hopefully they won’t find a lot in the scan.”

Liverpool need their stars for the upcoming games

The Reds have a packed schedule this month thanks to the Champions League and Carabao Cup games.

Origi would have been an option in some of those ties as we need to keep the team fresh, and hopefully, the Belgian isn’t out for a long time.
