Virgil van Dijk refutes claims of contract talks with Liverpool
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has played down talks of a new contract with the Premier League leaders.
The Dutch defender has been excellent since joining from Southampton and helped the Reds win the Champions League last season.
Van Dijk has won several individual awards, thanks to his performances for the Reds, and reports (h/t Sky Sports) suggested that he had agreed on a new six-year deal.
However, the Dutch captain refuted such claims and told Sky Sports that there have been no talks of a deal:
“There is nothing going on, so that’s it.”
Van Dijk was asked if he wanted to get talks of a new contract started with the Reds and replied:
“That’s not on me. I saw some reports in the media that I was
agreeing a new deal and stuff.“But I’m not even discussing anything at the moment. The only thing I want to do right now
is focus on the games and we’ll see in the future what may happen.”
Liverpool have been perfect in the Premier League
Van Dijk has helped the Reds to a perfect start in the Premier League but we lost the first game of the Champions League group stage against Napoli.
Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente got the goals for the home team but we had our chances to score too.
The Reds should still be favourites to qualify for the next round of the competition as we play Genk and Red Bull Salzburg in the other group fixtures.
