Liverpool set to add Porto coach to their ranks next month

Liverpool to appoint Vitor Matos as part of coaching team next month

Jornal de Noticias (h/t Daily Star) claims that Liverpool are set to appoint Vitor Matos in their coaching team next month.

Liverpool have an opening in their coaching department after Pep Lijnders was promoted as the assistant manager.

Zeljko Buvac was the second in command behind Jurgen Klopp, but he left in April 2018.

The report claims that Matos and Lijnders worked together at Porto and Liverpool’s newest coach and joined as an academy coach years ago.

Matos is currently the Porto B assistant, and was the technical director at Chinese club Shandong Luneng Taishan last year (h/t Daily Star).

New coach to work with young players

The report adds that Matos is expected to help the senior players. However, his main job is to ensure that our youngsters can make the jump to the first-team.

Liverpool have seen Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold become regulars from the youth teams.
