“He wanted a commission” – World Cup winner’s former agent sheds more light on collapsed Liverpool deal

Nabil Fekir’s former agent claims brother-in-law caused collapse of Liverpool deal

Nabil Fekir was linked with a move to Liverpool last season but couldn’t sign for the Reds (h/t Daily Mail

The Frenchman was excellent for Lyon and had already recorded a video for the Reds, but issues with his medical caused the deal to collapse (h/t Daily Mail).

The World Cup winner joined Real Betis this season in a surprise move, and his former agent has shed more light on the failed Liverpool move.

Jean-Pierre Bernes had negotiated with both clubs for four months to seal the deal, however, Fekir’s brother-in-law changed all that.

Bernes told Canal+ that Fekir’s brother-in-law wanted more and Liverpool had second thoughts about the move (h/t Daily Mail):

“Nabil was Liverpool’s priority. I worked for four months with the Liverpool representatives, with Jurgen Klopp, Jean-Michel Aulas, everything was ready.”

The agent added that Fekir would have earned €45m over five years, but on the day of the medical, his brother-in-law arrived and caused a lot of problems by saying (h/t Daily Mail):

“’Stop everything, discussions have to start all over again.’ It was surreal. We thought that we were in a Walt Disney film.”

More money, more problems

Bernes added that Fekir’s brother-in-law started acting like he was the agent and even the player’s attitude changed:

“The brother-in-law of Nabil all of a sudden acted like a player’s agent. He wanted a commission, everyone knows, it is fashionable these days.

“[Fekir] was on a cloud, he seemed to have transformed, he didn’t even greet the Liverpool representatives.”

Liverpool players celebrate against Chelsea

Bernes concluded by saying that he was ashamed at the reactions of his ex-client. It all worked out for Liverpool as we won the Champions League last season and missed out on the Premier League by just a single point.

The Reds look great this season too, and the last thing we need is someone with a big attitude coming into the team and affecting the team adversely.
