James Milner won’t wait for Leeds’ promotion to decide future
James Milner won’t wait to sign a new deal at Liverpool even if Leeds make a push for promotion, according to The Athletic (h/t Daily Star).
The English midfielder is out of a contract at the end of the season and has become an integral part of the club.
Milner was excellent in our Champions League campaign last time around, and despite being 33, he is still wanted at the club (h/t Daily Star).
The former Leeds star might be interested in joining his ex-club, however, Milner cannot wait for them to seal their promotion (h/t Daily Star).
The versatile Englishman can play in several positions and his leadership and experience are important to the team, with the typical example being our 2-1 win vs Leicester last night.
The report adds that negotiations between Liverpool and Milner have started and we could get more details near the end of the year.
No guarantees for Leeds
A return to his boyhood club would be emotional for the Englishman, however, there are no guarantees that Leeds will be back in the Premier League next season.
The Whites are placed 5th after 11 games and were in promotion fight last season too. However, they were knocked out in the playoffs by Derby County.
Marcelo Bielsa has done a great job at the club but we need to keep hold of Milner at all costs.
