Ben Woodburn faces three months out after fractured metatarsal

Ben Woodburn could be out for three months after fracturing his metatarsal in a 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley, according to the Evening Standard.

The youngster is on loan from Liverpool at League One side Oxford United and the extent of the damage would be known after a scan.

However, Woodburn is expected to go under the knife and will return to the Reds to start his rehab programme (h/t Evening Standard).

Oxford boss Karl Robinson added that Liverpool weren’t pleased with the challenge that led to the injury and he was upset over how the Wales international was treated in the league (h/t Evening Standard).

Woodburn trying to rekindle his career

The Welsh attacker made a mark when he became the youngest goalscorer for the senior Liverpool side a few years ago.

However, he has struggled for form since then and hasn’t been able to break into the first-team.

The 19-year-old was sent to Sheffield United on loan last season, but that was cut short.

The attacker needs to play consistently for Oxford and prove he has the quality to feature at the top level.

It is unfortunate that he could be out for a few months and hopefully, he returns stronger than ever.
