Carragher believes Gerrard can jump from Rangers to Liverpool

Steven Gerrard has done a decent job in his first senior managerial role. The former Liverpool star helped Rangers finish second last season and they lead the Scottish Premiership this time around.

Gerrard knows it will be tough to keep the mighty Celtic behind for long, but he has also seen the Gers do well in the Europa League. Given the history that Gerrard has at Liverpool, he will always have a special place at the club.

Jurgen Klopp has done an excellent job so far at Anfield but has hinted at taking a break at the end of his current contract.

It will be tough to find a quality replacement for Klopp, however, Jamie Carragher believes Gerrard can make the jump from Scotland to England.

The former Liverpool defender backed the former captain to be in the running if Klopp leaves. He told the Mirror (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Stevie will be in the reckoning because he is Steven Gerrard. But more importantly, because he is doing really well as a manager.

“There’s no doubt that the more experiences he has will enhance him in his managerial career, but there’s nothing to say he couldn’t go straight from Rangers to Liverpool.”

However, the Sky Sports pundit added that Gerrard’s focus would only be on Rangers and trying to beat Celtic.

Liverpool need to keep their options open

Klopp has brought the feel-good factor back at Anfield, and there really is no one like the German.

We are possibly playing the best football since the Premier League started and seem set to land several trophies under Klopp.

However, we need to be smart with our decisions and should not undo the work done by the German. Liverpool were in doldrums due to the project not kicking off but Klopp has built something special here.

Hopefully, the German continues at Anfield for a very long time but there is no harm in keeping our options open.
