James Milner shares hilarious story of Gareth Bale after 2018 Champions League final
Liverpool exorcised their Champions League demons of 2018 by winning the title a few months ago. We were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid via a wonder goal from Gareth Bale, but we made a few errors too.
Mohamed Salah was taken out of the game by Sergio Ramos and had to be replaced, while Loris Karius made a couple of mistakes in goal.
That was a learning experience for Jurgen Klopp and the team, but we used that to our advantage as we beat Tottenham in Madrid. James Milner played in both finals and shared a funny story about Bale ending up wherever the Liverpool star went.
The Englishman spoke on BT Sport after being handed a Bale shirt (h/t Express):
“I don’t hate him! [But] there are some bad memories there, obviously.
“The worst part about it was I went away to Spain just after this to get away from it.
“And who’s buggy is parked in front of mine on the tee? [Bale’s.]
“I couldn’t even get away from him a week later! But the goal was incredible.”
Bale’s first goal was truly incredible and no top goalkeeper would have been able to save that. However, we lacked ideas after Salah’s departure.
Liverpool on the road for more glory
The loss in the Champions League final didn’t faze us as we went on to win the trophy a year later.
Liverpool have a habit of bouncing back, and are doing the same in the Premier League. We missed out on the title by one point last season, but are leading the table by eight points after eight games.
There is added hunger in the side to beat Manchester City to the title, and we seem set for more trophies under the German.
