KV Mechelen striker William Togui has expressed his desire to play for Liverpool.
The 22-year-old Ivory Coast international has scored six goals from 12 appearances for the Belgian side this season.
Togui has done well for the Belgians but he aims to play at the top level. The striker was speaking to SportMania (h/t Liverpool Echo) and claimed that the Reds have a culture of winning:
“My ambition is to play at the top level. I would like to show my talent in a big league, like the Premier League.
“I’m aiming for England because it suits my style of play. I dream of joining Liverpool, a club who have the culture of winning. I like challenges.”
The Reds currently have three of the best forwards in the world and Togui would find it difficult to break into the first-team. However, we have a significant African contingent now after Jurgen Klopp took over the manager’s role.
Klopp has built a fantastic team at Anfield and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that other players want to join us.
The Reds could do with a senior attacker joining the team. We didn’t replace Daniel Sturridge in the summer and Rhian Brewster is seen as cover for Roberto Firmino.
Divock Origi can do a job out wide or as a striker, while Xherdan Shaqiri has spent a lot of time out injured.
Harvey Elliott has also impressed since joining from Fulham. However, another quality forward would increase the competition for the front three spots.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been excellent over the past two years but we need to have quality options on the bench too.
