Pedro Chirivella wants to return to Spain over lack of game time
Pedro Chirivella has featured in a couple of Carabao Cup games for us this season.
The 22-year-old has struggled for regular minutes due to the competition for places.
The Spaniard was out on loan previously and wants a return to Spain. Chirivella was speaking to Marca and claimed he was close to leaving the Reds (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“I have had two or three windows where I was about to leave.
“Or that I get to leave, but that by other people’s circumstances I just can’t enjoy minutes where I want, which is in Spain.
“The same thing happened a little this summer; I was close to going to Spain again, but due to circumstances the club decided that I had to stay again.”
Chirivella added that he was happy to get chances at Anfield, however, he wanted to play more and was open to leaving in January:
“The opportunities are not continuous due to the players at the club.
“Yes, I would like to find a solution in January and return to Spain. And if not, we would look to next summer to return to Spain definitely.”
The Spaniard needs more time on the pitch
Chirivella’s frustrations are understandable but the quality of our first-team players is just too good.
The Spaniard seems to be cover for some of our stars and has only featured in the Carabao Cup.
The 22-year-old needs regular minutes to continue his development and hopefully, a solution is sought in the winter window.
Liverpool have several options for their midfield and could promote another youngster to take Chirivella’s place.
