Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri to miss Genk clash
Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have any fresh injury worries ahead of the Champions League clash against Genk (h/t LiverpoolFC.com).
However, Liverpool will be without the services of Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Matip last played for us in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United and has a knee problem, while Shaqiri is recuperating from a calf injury (h/t Mirror).
Klopp was speaking to the press ahead of the game and claimed there weren’t any updates related to injuries (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):
“Nobody told me anything. Yesterday in training everybody could do what he had to do, but in this period of the year we know things can happen overnight [but] no, nothing [new] that I know. Everything should be fine.”
Liverpool might make a few changes to the team
The manager added that Liverpool’s fixture list would see some fresh faces play against Genk.
Liverpool made a few changes the last time they faced the Belgian side, and most of the first-teamers were rested in the Carabao Cup win over Arsenal.
We need to beat Genk at Anfield to have a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages. The Reds have been in action once in almost every three days over the past two weeks. The trend is set to continue after the Genk clash as well.
