Liverpool interested in Genk midfielder Sander Berge

Liverpool are interested in Genk’s Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge, according to VG (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The 21-year-old has faced us twice in the Champions League group stage this season. The report further claims that Jurgen Klopp told the Norway international that he was “an interesting player, a very interesting player.”

Berge joined Genk from Valerenga in 2017 and scored a couple of goals for the Belgians in the previous season.

The 21-year-old can play a deeper role in the midfield and is a regular for the Norway national side. Genk have been difficult opponents and we could only beat them 2-1 at home after resting a few players for the clash.

The Norwegian also spoke about the meeting with Klopp and was pleased with the team’s performance (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“It was a great moment. It is nice. You take it with a smart smile. It is nice that such a reputable trainer comes away and says something like that.

“But overall, it’s the team performance I’m happy with. We go ahead, get up and play evenly with Liverpool throughout the match. That’s what matters most.”

WhoScored.com claims that the midfielder is great at passing, dribbling and intercepting the ball too.

Liverpool to move for another young player?

The Reds signed Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott in the summer, and the youngsters have played in the Carabao Cup for us.

Liverpool have a few youngsters coming through the ranks too, and it will be interesting to see if Berge is a serious target for us in the summer.
