Elano claims Liverpool’s move for Rodrygo failed due to low offer

Former Manchester City attacker Elano has claimed that Liverpool failed to sign Rodrygo.

The Brazilian youngster joined Real Madrid in the summer and scored a hat-trick in their 6-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray.

Rodrygo has scored five goals in all competitions for Real and moved to the Galacticos in the summer.

Elano told ESPN that there was strong interest from the Reds before Madrid came in. However, our offer was low (h/t Mirror):

“There was strong interest from Liverpool for the kid when he was in the youth teams and they wanted him, but the offer was low.

“Then the offer arrived from Real Madrid. I had a chat with the club and I told them the kid was worth gambling on and that I would like to work with him.”

The former Manchester City star managed Rodrygo at Santos and heaped praise on his former player too:

“There are very few players that are like that when they’re so young. He’s already mature and has a personality to his game.”

The Brazilian mostly plays out wide and it will be interesting to see how his first season with Real goes.

It will be interesting to see what our transfer plans are in the coming windows. Real have a history of landing top Brazilian talents, with Kaka, Roberto Carlos, Marcelo, Ronaldo and Vinicius Jr playing for them in recent years.
